The Gulf of Tunis is a semi-enclosed sea between Cap Bon and Cap Farina, relatively sheltered from the large Mediterranean swells. Conditions are generally calmer than on the open sea, but the north-easterly wind can raise an unpleasant short, cross sea. La Goulette is the capital's main marina.
